Since four generations, the Stephanides Group’s success has been influenced
by major events, such as significant changes in the economy of the island, war,
changing consumer lifestyles and important advances in technology. The
Stephanides Group has grown from a small retail store, to one of the largest
trading groups in Cyprus.
How it all began
1896 The founder of the company, Anastasios
Stephanides is born in the town of Andalia, situated in Asia Minor.
1922 War and political instability in Asia Minor
forces Anastasios Stephanides to leave and seek refuge and employment with local
firms in

1925 A first small retail store bearing the name of
its owner, Anastasios Stephanides, is established in Nicosia, with emphasis on
retail trade.
1935 The retail store progressively expands and
starts to import household products, toiletries and chemicals through commission
agents and changes the focus to wholesale trade.
1945 Cyprus begins to develop from a poor rural
economy into a major trading force in the Mediterranean.
